This is a quick and easy guide showing how I base my wargames miniatures. It works fine for both 15mm & 28mm and both elements & single figures: there's only a few minor differences.
Step 1.First of all you need miniatures and of course bases. When it comes to bases there are a lot of choices, you can buy them ready made or do them yourself. If you make them yourself I would recommend plasticard, it’s very good for small bases (like those used for DBx), but not for the big ones. If you buy them there are some different materials to choose from. I use metal ones from Precision Wargames Supplies. I’m happy with them, but not everyone is, some have reported rust. |

Step 2.For 15mm and single-based 28mm I glue the miniatures to the base before painting but I always painting 28mm elements before gluing them to the element base. |

Step 3.Using magnetic bases or not. Magnetic bases are good, I use them for small bases. I buy 1 mm thick magnetic sheets, which are pre-glued, from Panduro Hobby. |

Step 4.If the miniatures aren’t painted its time to apply the under-coat. I use white for the ones I will dip, black for the rest. |
||
Step 5.Now it’s time to apply glue to the base and then put them in a tub of sand. I use Games Workshop’s sand. Let dry over night. |

Step 6.After it has dried its time to cut away the “borders” if it’s an element. I just do this with a knife. |

Step 7.Now I paint the figures if they were not already painted.. |

Step 8.Then I paint the base with Vallejo Cobra Leather (number 40 in their Game Color range) and then dry-brush it with Games Workshop Bleached Bone. |

Step 9.Now we are almost done, only two steps left! Put some glue on the base and then put it in a tub of special secret grass mix. Leave over night. To blend the special
secret grass mix I use Woodland
Scenic's Fine Turf: I
take a lot of Green Grass (T45) and then add
some Yellow Grass (T43) and
Burnt Grass (T44) for contrast. |

Step 10.Cut away all grass that are glued to the wrong place and then finish by touching up the sides of the base with Cobra Leather.
Well that’s it. Good luck with basing! |
